Runkeeper Raises $10 Million in Funding

Today, Boston based Runkeeper announced that they raised an additional $10 million in funding to expand their Health Graph API and build upon their broader vision to become the Facebook of Fitness.

The round was led by Spark Capital (investors in Twitter, Tumblr, Foursquare), with participation from existing investor OATV (the venture arm of O’Reilly Media), and new investor Revolution Ventures (founded by its Chairman Steve Case, the co-founder of AOL, and Revolution Ventures President Tige Savage). The additional capital will enable Runkeeper to grow their team (job openings here), improve their products, and generally move faster as they grow RunKeeper and the Health Graph.

RunKeeper was founded in 2008 as part of a wave of apps for the iPhone focused on fitness, helping runners (and now bikers, hikers, etc) keep track of their pace and routes. With the great strides made in the health/fitness sensor ecosystem in the last few years, the company has evolved beyond an iPhone app into a platform that lets you upload data from a variety of different devices.
